Meet our New CTO - Clint Coombs!

05 April 2021

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Clint Coombs as the Chief Technology Officer at Unido. Clint joins Unido to spearhead the technical build-out of our ecosystem, bringing with him 20 years of Technology and Financial Services experience.

During the course of his career, Clint spent 15 years building innovative solutions for international banking giants such as Macquarie & Standard Chartered Bank. He has built an impressive track record of shaping product strategy, building high potential teams across different continents and successfully executing technology build-outs in the enterprise software domain. He is a highly driven and result focused CTO with a proven architecture, design, and project execution background.

Two of his biggest accomplishments are:

  • Driving a bank-wide transformation program for Standard Chartered’s source code management and build technologies
  • Leading front office technology & strategy for Macquarie’s Agriculture, Metals & Emissions businesses which collectively contributed in excess of $120M AU PnL annually

To help introduce Clint into our community, we conducted a short interview with him — please enjoy!

  1. What excites you about Unido?

With the interest from the institutional sector in blockchain technologies increasing significantly over the last 24 months, the Unido platform is uniquely placed to address governance and security concerns that come with holding crypto assets. As someone who has worked extensively in the retail and investment banking space and being acutely familiar with the challenges in this sector, I see it as a tremendous opportunity to be able to lead the team and further bridge the gap.
  2. What the some of the milestones you look forward to?

I’m impressed by the pipeline of partnerships the team have established to date and are still being worked on. The EQIBank partnership for one could well become a case study of how neobanks can enhance their offering into the crypto space using the Unido platform. Similarly our work to integrate with Moonstake will be another great feature for Unido users.
  3. What are some of the challenges you are looking to tackle?

There are a few areas we are looking at. A major piece of upcoming work will be ensuring we can hit our longer-term scaling targets. We can also see growing interest in Unido Core APIs, so want to get to the point where the onboarding activity for interested parties is frictionless.
  4. Where do you see Unido in 5 years and how will it get there?

We aim to build Unido, and in particular the Unido EP product into the market leading crypto asset management platform. Our proprietary multi signatory signing tech will continue to be a core part of this, but at the same time we will supplement this with a set of features that improve the overall user experience, while at the same time addressing challenges related to holding, managing, and using assets faced by corporates. The last quarter alone has seen a huge expansion in the Unido roadmap through an increased number of partnerships. This together with alignment to an ever-evolving tech space will present an ongoing opportunity for the Unido Ecosystem.
  5. With Visa and Paypal accepting cryptocurrency for payments, where do you think cryptocurrency space will go in next years?

Although the market cap of cryptocurrencies is huge, in more practical terms the penetration across the wider economy is minimal. Not only will the acceptance of payment processes help change this, but compliment the heavy push coming from corporate interests. We will also see benefits derived from the adoption of late generation blockchains where transaction costs have been reduced. To put it another way, it’s fair to say overall demand will continue to increase, and we are still some way off a point of market equilibrium or steady state.
  6. Any last thoughts or words for Unido Community?

It’s wonderful to see such a community form around what is a relatively young project. We have a lot of exciting things in the pipeline so I’ll just say — watch this space. The team have built an awesome platform over the last 3 years, but this is just a start!
